Local information for the Porto meeting

Dear colleagues

As the Electronet meeting in Porto is approaching I would like to provide you with some local information.

How to reach the city centre from the airport

The airport has a direct metro connection to the city centre via line E (purple line). The train station is located just outside the airport (please follow the signs inside the terminal) and goes through the city centre until the station "Estadio do dragão" (a very important place, since it is the stadium of Porto football club ;)  I'm sending attached a map of the metro network.

On weekdays the metro runs from 06:00 to 01:00, and during all night on Fridays and Saturdays. Rechargeable tickets can be purchased in automatic machines at every station (more info here http://en.metrodoporto.pt/pages/397). To travel from the airport to the city centre you need a Z4 title (4 zones, 1.95€).

Here's some additional info on the Porto metro

As an alternative to the metro you  can take a taxi (costs ~20-25€ from the airport to the city centre)

* How to reach the venue from the city centre *

The venue for the meeting is the INESC TEC Research Institute, located inside the campus of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.

Again, one of the easiest ways is just to take the metro (line D, yellow) at the Trindade station in the direction "Hospital S João", and get out at the station "IPO". It takes about  10 minutes, and you need a Z2 ticket (1.2 €). I'm sending attached a map for reaching INESC TEC from the IPO station (about 15 minutes walking).

Dinner

I would like to ask you if you could tell me whether you intend to participate in the dinner on September 26th, if possible until Monday  (18th September). For organization purposes even just telling me a tentative "not sure" would be better than nothing, so I would be very grateful if you could let me know at your earliest convenience whether you would like to join the dinner. My difficulty in organising this is that due to COST rules the max reimbursement per person is 20€, and I can't book a formal dinner for say 50 persons by that amount  - though you can have a very decent meal by less than 20€ in Porto, don't worry - the difficulty is having a room just for us... Since the dinner will be paid by each individual participant and then reimbursed by COST, we'll have to do as in the first MC meeting in Greece... so I'll make a reservation in a "normal" restaurant, each person chooses what they want and pays accordingly... it's not what I would prefer, but it's the only way to comply with COST restrictions. About the reimbursements please note the following comment from the grant holder:

Grant Holder comment: COST covers 2 meals per day (flat rate 20 euro per meal). In case light lunch is provided by the grant holder, meals are reduced to 1 per day. The Local Organiser will provide light lunch for each meeting day, so maximum meals per day are reduced to 1

Contact information

Unfortunately my timetable for the days prior and after the meeting is already quite full... I'll have a work commitment during the whole day and evening on 22 September, and right after the meeting on September 28th I'll have to leave early in the morning to Lisbon for another meeting. Anyway feel free to contact me  in case you need, and I'll do my best to answer promptly.

I look forward to welcome you in Porto! Don' hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Susana Barbosa
